In addition to the general sessions, participants in the RCIA/Adult Faith Formation Track take the following sessions:

Year Two – January 13, 2012

Purpose of Catechesis

This talk will:

  1. Define catechesis as intimacy with Christ, per Catechesi Tradendae #5.
  2. Situate catechesis in light of the entire mission of the Church.
  3. Define catechesis, its tasks and its essential characteristics, including its Christocentric nature.

Conversion in Adults

 

Handling Crisis Situations

This talk will:

  1. Identify typical crisis situations that arise in parish ministries.
  2. Articulate and demonstrate the necessary pastoral and professional intervention skills.
  3. Highlight referral and mandatory reporting procedures.

Annulments, Convalidations and remarriages

This talk will:

  1. Give a catechesis on the Church’s understanding of marriage, based on Theology and Canon Law.
  2. Explain what an annulment is and is not.
  3. Cover the issues that RCIA leaders will encounter in regards to marriage and annulments, including strategies about how to deal with those in irregular marriage situations and guidelines about their reception of the Sacraments.

 

Fostering Service, Leadership and Vocations

This talk will:

  1. Define and give an overview of the Church’s understanding of mystagogia.
  2. Address the nature of outreach and service as a response to Christ’s call for communion and solidarity.
  3. Offer resources for mobilizing adults for service, Christian leadership and the promotion of vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
