Parish Leadership Course Descriptions
KLC101 Evangelization and Catechesis
Through the work of evangelization and catechesis, the Church invites all people to intimacy with Christ and communion with the Holy Trinity. This course will discuss the Church’s mission to spread the Good News to all nations and how the good news cultivates and deepens the faith of the person. The documents to be examined are John Paul II’s Ecclesia in America, Catechesi Tradendae, and the General Directory for Catechesis from the Congregation for the Clergy, along with highlights from contemporary magisterial documents on evangelization and catechesis.
KLC102 Canonical, Cultural and Ecumenical Realities
This course seeks to give the participant an understanding of the how canonical, cultural, and ecumenical realities of parish life impact evangelization. This course will give an overview of the role of Canon Law in the life of the Church and how it impacts the life of the parish. It will examine the diversity of ethnic cultures and how they impact parish life in the diocese. Finally, it will look at the many denominations and religions in the diocese and provide an introduction into the Church’s principles of ecumenism.
KLC103 Principles of Parish Leadership
This course gives a general introduction to the skills, talents and spiritual qualities needed for the parish leader. It will examine the mission of the parish, as well as the call to each leader to be a servant rooted in Christian holiness. It will give an overview of the essential skills needed and an understanding of those responsible for the mission of the parish.
KLC104 Children’s Catechesis
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of children’s catechesis, ages 3 through 12.
KLC105 Youth Evangelization
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of youth evangelization, for youth in pre-adolescence and adolescence.
KLC106 Young Adult Evangelization
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of young adult evangelization, ages 18 and above.
KLC107 RCIA/Adult Faith Formation
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of initiating and catechizing adults, with special attention given to the RCIA process.
KLC108 Marriage
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of supporting marriage and family life at the parish.
KLC109 Respect Life
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of supporting Respect Life outreach at the parish.
KLC110 Pastoral Care of the Sick and Dying
This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of supporting the pastoral care of the sick and dying at the parish.
