Parish Leadership

Through the work of evangelization and catechesis, the Church invites all people to intimacy with Christ and communion with the Holy Trinity. This course will discuss the Church’s mission to spread the Good News to all nations and how the good news cultivates and deepens the faith of the individual. The documents to be examined are John Paul II’s Ecclesia in America, Catechesi Tradendae, and the General Directory for Catechesis from the Congregation for the Clergy, along with highlights from contemporary magisterial documents on evangelization and catechesis.

This course will give an overview of the role of Canon Law in the life of the Church and how it impacts parish life. Included will be the history of Canon Law, juridical principles found in The Code of Canon Law, common methodology, and how Canon Law is used to support the everyday work of the Church and her mission of evangelization.

This course seeks to give the student an understanding of how the cultural and ecumenical realities of parish life impact evangelization. It will examine the diversity of ethnic cultures in the diocese and how they impact parish life and ministry. Finally, it will look at the many denominations and religions in the diocese and provide an introduction to the Church’s principles of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue.

This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of youth evangelization, for youth in pre-adolescence and adolescence.

This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of children’s catechesis, ages 3 through 12.

This course will introduce the student to the Church’s principles and methods of initiating and catechizing adults, with special attention given to the RCIA process.
